Ever taken an online Art History course?

I’d be interested to hear how you found it.   I generally like online courses but have heard —

‘Generally speaking, art history courses are hard. You see images of different time periods and styles of art. You need to evaluate the images and interpret them. It is basic building block for understanding art forms. Art history is all about learning to SEE art in a specific way but interpreting from your own perspective and understanding. However, it is really not from your own perspective, it is from the perspective they want you to see art from. Bottom line: the course is hard and it kind of sucks.  If you are going to do this course, I would do it in a traditional classroom setting. You will get more out of it and understand the concepts better.’

Any other thoughts, experiences?

  1. I’m one of those who actually enjoyed art history. Don’t get me wrong, it can be dry and oh, so repetitive; but I found it interesting. And, I learned a lot from it. I also took it back in the day when there were no on-line courses. Since it is a lecture course, with minimal discussion (or mine was), it seems like a plausible on-line opportunity. Hope that helps!
