Been thinking the past few weeks about an inspiring site called ‘No Body Shame’. No BS is a campaign unintentionally born of Whitney Thore’s love of dance in spite of her fluctuating size due to health complications. She describes her past nineteen years as an ‘uphill trek through self-doubt, eating disorders, polycystic ovarian syndrome, weight loss, weight gain, and towering waves of depression’. Then at 29, she decided to ‘live her life to the fullest, regardless of what the scale says, and, most importantly, to dance. What began as a YouTube video called “A Fat Girl Dancing,” has exploded into a worldwide movement that fights the devastating effects of body shame, and promotes the idea of self-love and acceptance as a step toward total wellness’.
I applaud Whitney’s heart and guts. As a mom of five, I have long-standing body issues due to pregnancy. But like many women, i had issues even before i had a post pregnancy body to blame it on. The idea of No BS is to ‘Love Yourself. Live Fully. No Excuses. No Shame.’ I’m particularly taken by her idea of ‘loving yourself aggressively.’ I’ve found that tearing myself apart aggressively comes pretty easy. So it makes sense that the counter would be to love yourself aggressively too. Except to be honest, I’m not quite sure how to do that.
Anyways, check out the site. It’s awesome & inspiring. And who doesn’t need a little less bs in life? 🙂
